Guide: Create a hotel look with curtain tracks

Hanging curtains on curtain tracks has significantly increased in popularity in recent years, largely due to the popular hotel style with wide floor-to-ceiling curtains that draw attention. But which curtain track is truly the best choice for your home? Should I choose a ceiling track or a wall-mounted track? Here we go through how to achieve a stylish curtain arrangement on curtain tracks and give tips on the different options based on needs and taste!

Are curtain tracks a better choice than regular curtain rods?

Ultimately, this is mainly a matter of taste, as a curtain rod provides a more classic expression around the window where the rod itself has a more decorative effect, while a curtain track has a more minimalist look where functionality is key. However, curtain tracks are becoming an increasingly common feature in modern homes, and here are some of the advantages of hanging your curtains on a track:

  • Flexible sun shading – on a curtain track, you hang the curtain with gliders, which means that the curtain can easily be drawn back and forth in the track. Many curtain tracks are also adapted for heavy curtains, allowing them to glide easily in the track.
  • Discreet hanging – a curtain track has a discreet design, allowing it to blend into the ceiling or wall. With the right combination of track and hook, you can also conceal a large part of the track with the curtain.
  • Can be mounted both on the ceiling and on the wall – a ceiling track is often a popular choice for the popular hotel style, but most curtain tracks can also be wall-mounted using wall brackets or extra angles where ceiling mounting is not possible. These wall brackets are designed so that the curtain still sits very close to the ceiling – something that is not as easy with a traditional curtain rod.
  • Convenient accessories – for the most common curtain tracks, there are several accessories available to create a curtain arrangement tailored to your needs! For example, corner bends for bay windows, corded gliders for truly elegant hotel waves, or why not a draw wand that attaches to the track so you don't have to pull the curtain when you want to move it.

Double curtain track for that extra hotel feel

A double curtain arrangement is practical, trendy, and truly stylish! A popular variation is to use one layer of sheer curtains and the other layer with a thicker curtain to easily adjust the light entering the room. This type of arrangement is common in bedrooms where blackout curtains are often preferred, but a hotel-style arrangement works just as well in other rooms with different types of fabrics. A light sheer curtain paired with a thicker dark one creates beautiful contrasts, but it's also very stylish to opt for a sheer and a thicker curtain tone-on-tone for a cohesive and harmonious feel.

For this arrangement, it's convenient to use a ceiling track with double channels, but you can also perfectly mount single curtain tracks in double layers for the same effect. Here you can read more about how to achieve the perfect hotel feel with curtain tracks.

Curtain hooks or pleater hooks – the combination creates the style!

Did you know that different types of curtain hooks create different pleats? Curtain hooks or shirring tape hooks are perfect for voluminous hotel waves, while traditional finger hooks for small, tighter pleats give a different feel to your curtain arrangement.

Different tracks can be combined with different hooks for the best results (see table below). The neat U-track, for example, is a popular choice with the shirring tape hook for a stylish wave arrangement, while the Alex track is best combined with low-setting finger hooks, also known as glider hooks, if you wish to conceal as much of the track as possible with the curtain.

Here you can learn more about different curtain arrangements and see how to achieve the best possible results with the different hooks!

Which curtain track should I choose?

Today, there is a plethora of curtain tracks on the market, and we fully understand that it can feel a bit difficult to choose. In addition to our standard curtain tracks, you will also find motorized tracks in our range – perfect for those seeking a little extra everyday luxury!

Below you will find a compilation of our most common curtain tracks and their features. Most of our curtain tracks can be ordered custom-sized up to 5 meters. If you are mounting your curtain tracks from wall to wall – remember to deduct 1-2 cm from the total measurement! This way, you reduce the risk of having to cut the track yourself if your measured dimensions differ slightly. Read more about our curtain tracks here.
